I've been really bad about keeping my
blog up to date lately. I'm not sure exactly what it is that keeps
me from updating my site, but I feel like I don't do it as much as
I should. Even if I just kept my blog posts short, it would be
better short than nothing.
I think it may actually have something to
do with the accessibility of my site to myself. I really love how
versatile Joomla is, but it really doesn't make for a great
blogging system. I created a social network at work using Joomla as
the main tool and blogging was one of the features I had to
overcome. I guess it wasn't as big of a deal for work as I am
"backed" (financed) by the company when I needed to buy anything.
In the case of work, I needed a multi-user blogging component that
would be robust enough for an advanced user but easy enough for a
basic user to use. I ended up getting MyBlog and JomComment from
Azrul. Both are really professional Joomla / AJAX extensions. I've
been tempted to get a copy of JomComment for my site just because I
REALLY like the way the tool allows users to add comments to the
site. I tested out the beta version of the MyBlog component but I
didn't like how I couldn't assign blog posts to categories. Some
blogs dont have categories and purely use the keywords (which
MyBlog supports) but it just didn't feel right for my site.
I'm now trying a component called Blogg-X which is a java based
desktop client that allows you to post directly to your website.
The initial setup was pretty painfree - probably about the same
information I have to type in just to post a single blog to my
site. And from now on I should be able to quickly make posts
directly to my site using this tool. If this doesn't work out for
me I may switch to using WordPress or perhaps the new Joomla
component mojoBlog which appears to be based on WordPress but has
some issues right now. |
